David has been in parish ministry since the mid-1980s, first as a lay worker and reader and, from 1994, as an ordained minister. He has worked in the dioceses of Liverpool and Chester; mainly in urban parishes, including a time as a vicar in his hometown of Birkenhead. He became Vicar of St John’s in April 2012. This is a half-time post which he combines with academic work including a role with the Chester Diocese Committee for Ministry. He particularly enjoys teaching New Testament Greek(?!). He is married to Lesley who is a scientist based at the National Oceanographic Centre in Liverpool.
“My priority is to help St John’s face the future with confidence as a united and caring church family, rooted in Jesus Christ. I am committed to biblical preaching, pastoral care and building bridges between the church and the local community of Ashton Hayes and Mouldsworth. I believe that we have a good ministry team here and I am hopeful that our church can be a powerful witness to God’s love in action.”
Alan became a reader in 1996 but served as a churchwarden prior to that. He is a retired Chemical Engineer with an enthusiasm for theology and a belief that science and religion are actually compatible. He is married to Yvonne who is the musical director of the church choir.
Alan is the treasurer of the Chester Deanery Synod and is a member of Diocesan Synod and Bishop’s Council.
Alan acts as our sacristan and verger.
